Question Asus F3JR for photoshop and casual gaming?

$1689 at http://www.penta.com.au/template.php?seqid=7246

What do folks think of this notebook?

T7200
2Gig Ram
120 HDD
ATi X2300 128Mb??? (Any good?)
Vista Home Premium

Any better value notebooks out there? I AM! waiting on an availability on the $1199 nx8420 from MSY.

Also, any reason why a notebook can't be used as a part-time media centre PC, and play movies/ show photo's through my TV?

Thank you in advance.

im just looking and comparing the various specs on sites like anandtech etc...

the x2300 has only half the supported memory that the x1600/x1700 does...and the memory bandwidth is still only 128bit (same as x1600/x1700)

the x2300 looks to be the current gen version of the x1300.

yep ATI fuckers have made what are essentially x1300s and named them as "x2300" for some reason... probably related to trying to deceive people to think they have something to do with DX10 parts... anyway x1700 is much faster than that. X2400 is the lowest-end DX10 part.

BTW a current list of parts from bottom to top:

Integrated:
  • GMA 950 etc.
I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Integrated:
  • Go 7300 (Go 7400 slightly faster refresh)
  • Radeon X1300 (X1400, X1450 are slightly faster refreshes, X2300 is 99% the same but with some video decode stuff added IIRC, cbf googling right now)
Barely Midrange: (or what passes as "midrange" in the lappy graphics world)
  • Go 7600 (approx desky 7600GS)
  • 8600M GS
Midrange:
  • Go 7600 GT and Go 7700 (closer to the desky 7600GT)
  • Radeon X1600 (and faster refresh X1700)
  • Geforce 8600M GT
Top:
  • Go 7800/7900 (GTX flavours are faster)
  • Mobility X1800/X1900 apparently exist but are rarely seen in the wild

Agreed, great info there.
Any idea how one would determine if the x1700 on the Asus F3jp is the "faster refresh" version?

EDIT - D'oh.. just re-read the post. x1700 ~is~ the faster version compared to x1600.
