Default Screen working...but only a little?

Hey guys, fixing my uncles pc, and he said his screen isnt working and after pulling his laptop apart and fixing his other problem of it not starting up. I noticed you can see still everything on the screen! Its still working! But its a bit hard to see. Like its as if the brightness has been turned down but you can still see it.

Any ideas what it could be? Its an IBM laptop. About 5-6 years old.

if its it really dark i'd hazard a guess to say the backlight of the LCD is busted - time for a new laptop uncle

Can't quite tell from your original post... was the screen dead before he pulled it apart?

If it wasn't, maybe the backlight was just unplugged during the disassembly and not plugged back in.

had a friend with the same problem. We thought it was the backlight too. Turns out it was just the cable connecting to the LCD was loose.
