Awesome price for a travelling laptop. For $240 it opens a whole bunch of possiblities for modding. I'm thinking giving it more ruggedness etc.

i think most people would be going for the 10 inch, ~$400 model tbh, because damn, an ultraportable for $400 with a decent screen...seven years ago, a toshiba portege 3xx0CT with 10 inch screen and a 450mhz pentium 3 would set you back about $4500!

EDIT - who cares about ruggedness...if it breaks, another $240

I think i would most definitely ditch my current laptop for one of them. When can we expect them here? And is that $240 AUD or USD?

The battery life seems a bit short - three hours with a 7" LCD and solid-state storage? Hopefully they'll make extra batteries available cheaply.

Anyway, it looks like a good idea. I'll probably buy one if the price is decent in Australia.

Okay, that's good.

Presumably only the high-end models can run XP properly - after all, a 4GB flash disk would be just about full by the time you've installed XP and the associated applications (Office, for example).

I might wait and see if another company releases a better model - longer battery life and a traditional HDD.

space wise it might be tight. But speed wise 512 memory and nearly any processor they would use would be ok as far as im concerned

Tbird 1 gig ran XP fine from memory.

This will also drag down the prices of second hand lappies in general I would say.

Just a note: I read somewhere the Intel one and the eee pc are different products

XP Lite it is then. But as long as it has the hardware to run XP without too much lag then I'll be happy.

i reckon this is heaps exciting to see, I reckon in a few years there will be many manufacturers making ultra-portable ultra cheap laptops.
