Default i feel like ive been rorted :\ (x360 related)

so like i got my xbox 360 in november of last year..

the first time i ever connected it i received a hard drive error (E67) to which i contacted support and they run me through a few things to check if it was truly fucked.. once i did as they said my console functioned properly and served me well for a good 3-4 months at which stage it again fkd up with the same error..

i was thinking to myself "no worries, its under warrenty ill just call support" so thats what i did and was met with "oh ye the console has a 12 month warrenty but the accessories (which the hard drive falls under, even though it came as part of the console and you would think was bundled with the package?) only have a 90 day warrenty

so i asked "how do i fix it?" to which she responded with "buy a new hard drive they retail for $170"

will have to go on the back burner having just put down a loan for an apartment and needing to buy furniture, doubt ill be playin any x360 soon and if i do i wont be able to save ;\

It's bad enough that they'll class the hard drive as an "accessory". But further compounding it is the absolutely stupid price they charge for the hard drive. $170 for a 20gig hard drive? Rip off. You can get a 40gig 2.5inch SATA laptop drive for $99 delivered, which is essentially the same kind of drive in the 360, only twice the capacity!

I don't know alot about the law but I was under the impression all electronic equipment sold in aus had to have a 12 month warranty period, which the console has but I would of thought the HDD would fall under that category aswell.

Maybe someone who actually knows what they're talking about can clarify?

Otherwise there are guides about for replacing the actual drive inside the case with another one instead of buying a new MS unit which could save you alot.

I'd ring up and speak to someone else, I'm pretty sure what you've been told isn't right.

If it does come down to replacing the HDD DON'T buy one locally. 120GB drives are available off Ebay for about $120US delivered which is still cheaper than what you'll pay for a 20GB drive locally.

ill give them another ring tonight then..

i was just about to say the X360 20GB HDD in the US is only $99USD from the official site.. that converts to a lot less then $170AUD..

does anyone know if a 120GB X360 HDD from the US would work on my Australian console?

Don't electronic goods have to come with a 12 month warranty?

Send an email to Peter Moore. Seems to have worked for a few guys around the traps.

Doesn't statutory warranty cover this. If you take it up with fair trading you should be able to expect such items to have a life longer than 3 months.

Definitely. I think you've been misinformed. The sad state of the matter is, had you been able to buy a HDD yourself you'd get a 3-5 year warranty depending on manufacturer.

Call again and just say that the console doesn't work and you want it replaced asap!

If you can't for some reason do that... buy a hdd from eb then return it with yours in the packaging (explain the errors) for a full refund and let eb deal with microsoft.

Btw I bought a 360 on launch day with 10 games and went home all happy only to find that it had a faulty hdd. I took it back to dick smith and they tested it, same error, they gave me a brand new console and sent the other one along with the hdd back. You'd think having 2 hdds fail on the same system that it was a system problem :\

my only problem with that would be

somehow the hdd S/N was marked on the packaging or when EB contacted microsoft and rung off the S/N they would say "that HDD was packaged with a system and was not for individual sale" at which point the sales assitant would turn around and say "you swaped these over hey?"
