Default Screen size vs price

What is the "basic" screen size for laptops?

Is it 15.4", and then you pay a premium for small or larger?

(thought that 14.1 might have been the standard, but they seem more expensive than the 15's)

When I poked around some laptops I generally found the 15.4" models with a res of 1280*800 to be most common and cheaper.

yeah 99% of the under $1000 models are 15.4" widescreen unfortunately, uncommon to find a 14 incher cheap (although of course, possible).

Would battery life usually be significantly longer with a 14.1"?
Or does the smaller size mean a smaller battery and less life also?

From my experience, unless the screen is significantly smaller (or larger), it doesn't affect battery life much overall.

So a 15.4" vs a 14.1" with identical specs otherwise will have roughly the same battery life. A 13.3" and a 17", however... the 17" will run out of juice quicker. Hard to get those at the same spec though...

[EDIT:]
And yes, for the original question, 15.4" is the "standard' laptop LCD size. Anything else, you pay for, and if you don't pay for it directly, you lose out elsewhere (ie lower spec CPU, RAM, etc)

I've definitely noticed that 15.4" is the most common as well.

I think he was refering to the lenovo range, they were like $800 or somewhere around there.

both are under a grand and have 14.1" screens but the lenovo are even cheaper, I think BigW still have em. You just need to shop around a little first.
