Default Asus F3J Laptop - trying to switch over to XP

hey all,

was wondering if anyone can help me get this laptop back to XP PRO...

I think I have everything working right now except for two things...

1. I can't get any audio - in device manager, it displays

audio device on high definition audio bus with an explamation mark in front of it.

I have downloaded the XP audio driver for this and it says it is a realtek HD audio device, but when I go to install the drivers it gets halfway then says something alongs the line of drivers could not be installed.

I have also tried downloading the latest audio drivers via the realtek page with the same problem.

Finally I found a site which gave some links to some windows drivers which was meant to allow you to install the realtek drivers, but they didn't help.

2. The other 'problem' I have is that in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to 'USB devices' - does anyone know what this is?

thanks.

since i was in the same boat a few days ago, therefore i would like to help as much as i can.

firstly what is ur model name? f3j doens't exist, only f3ja, f3jc, f3jm, f3jp, f3jr and f3jv.

so give me the exact model name.

the usb device could be ur web cam, have u installed the driver for it?

for audio device on high definition audio bus, u need download UAA bus driver and Audio driver, then install the current audio driver.

Email Asus support. Some of the Vista models use hardware that's different from the equivalent unit with XP (don't ask me why).

Their support team will be able to give you the links to the right drivers for the hardware you've got.

That's how I got one our F3's back to XP with all hardware working. IIRC, wireless, audio, modem and webcam weren't the same drivers from the XP variant of the same model.

Thx for the response guys...

I can't seem to find a direct link to the UAA drivers. I downloaded the realtek drivers and found a file that when installed set off windows 'new device found' at this point it finds the high definition audio bus and asks for drivers, but unfortunately I can't find any.

I'll send an email tonight to asus if I can't find anything else soon.

thx all

First for Audio did you use this driver?.
ftp://209.216.61.149/pc/audio/WDM_R169.exe

Second for the USB device, did you install the 5in1 Card reader driver?.
http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/..._XP_060906.zip

or the Webcam?

But like Diesmile said we need to know which F3Jx you have(ie. a,c,m,p)

finally got it working.... didn't use your links mobius though I appreciate your input.

Kind of wierd in that the file I ended up using had the same name as one I had already tried, so I guess it was just a version thing or something like that.

once that installed I was able to install the actual sound drivers without a problem.

if anyone wants to know just let me know and I'll put the files up somewhere.

regarding the USB thing, it probably is the webcam, though haven't actually tried it yet as it's not priority..

thx again for all your support.
