Default Dell warranty

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding warranty with Dell laptops. I purchased a Dell laptop second hand off some forum and I plugged the service tag into the Dell site and it still has warranty remaining.

The thing is, Dell have a transfer option available, although you need the previous (original) owner's details which I do not have as I think Im the third person to have this laptop.

My dealings with Dell trying to get the warranty transferred has got me no where. My question is, if the laptop in the future requires any warranty work, will I be able to use it, or does it need to be registered in my name for the warranty to be valid?

You have to get the warranty transferred from whoever it's currently registered with.

Send me a PM with the tag and I'll try to help if possible

I bought a Dell C610 off ebay, when it arrived it had white patchs all over the lcd. Went to the Dell website and found it was still under warranty, so i rang dell and no hassles had the lcd replaced here at home 2 days later. Didnt transfer the warranty or anything, just rang up and screamed help!@!

So if I didnt transfer the warranty (because I dont have the original owners details) and needed warranty work, then will I still be able to get warranty on the laptop?

lol, really?

my D400 still has 2 years of warranty on it but because i didnt have the original owner's details (in this case, a company that owned it to lease out to staff) dell would not help me at all. you are screwed unless you can find the new owners details mate, a few hours of phone calls from me to them and from them to me confirms that.

pretty piss poor IMO, with any other laptop company as long as you have the receipt you get the warranty service. its dells way of ducking away from having to honour their warrranties which is a pretty scummy move.

As someone else has posted, I wonder if you just called up wanting warranty work, would they honour the original warranty period.

I really dont see how they can refuse warranty even if its registered in a different name.

I had a old Compaq N610C which I purchased off someone in the states and I called HP / Compaq for warranty work which they had no problems with.
