Default P&S similar to Ixus 70?

I really don't know sqaut about P&S cameras, but I have to get one for my mother travelling OS.

Must have (in order of preference):
1. Small, but not smallest (ie canon S3 is out)
2. User friendly - don't really care if it has bulb mode or video or whatever, but a few automatic modes might be nice. (action/sports, macro etc)
3. ~5mp < must be < ~7.1mp (bigger does not mean better- dont want to have to get thousands of dollars worth of memory cards)
4. Image Stabilisation - she's old, nuff said.
5. must be < $400

Ixus 70 seems to fit the bill, except doesn't have IS.
Like the fact that it has the DigicIII processor- should be pretty noiseless at low light... well by P&S standards anyway...

any other recommendations?

mmm I'd so get his camera for my gf if it had widescreen lens :/ . I'm just wondering whether the price difference is worth it in order to get the IXUS 850 , it's nearly $200 difference but I cant put a price on my photos which I love in widescreen.

Thanks for the responses guys

Looks like the Fuji is the standout in this category, and just looking at the stats on dpreview I can see why.

To be honest I didn't even know that P&S cameras were able to do ISO 3200, and have a shutter lag of only .01s

This particular one has anti-blur too- which pretty much makes it perfect for mum's needs.

Thanks guys!

Just for shits and giggles, I went and had a look at this camera last night at WOW Sight and Sound.
The salesman was trying to convince me that the Canon Ixus75 was far more suited to my needs, even if it WAS 30% more expensive. The only explanations he could give me for that statement was that:

1. The Ixus 75 had 'far more features' - though he couldn't tell me what they were, and failed to see that advanced features weren't something that my 65 year old mother neither wanted nor needed.

2. It was a Canon... and they're the best...

I let out the most audible sigh I could at that point and walked away from him.

Will try my luck at PhotoContinental tonight
