Default DVD Drive not working

I have a LG super multi dvd drive (model: GSA-H22N) and after formatting my computer, it doesn't read dvds and can't burn dvds either (using one particular program, it says "Not a writing drive")

I've tried updating the firmware but I get the message "Wrong target model".

After looking in device manager it says that the device is a HA5622D JUR420W SCSI CdRom Device.

Wouldn't have a clue how to get around this, hope you guys can help me!

You can use the device manager to make sure the thing is enabled in the new profile - start>control panel>performance & maintenance>system>hardware>device manager

Are the jumper settings on the rear of the drive correct?

If that doesn't help, I would try pulling it out, and seeing if the machine detects it.

So, turn your computer off, pull out the drive, re-start, turn it off, re-install the drive and see if the OS finds it.

There's a firmware version 1.01 here but I think it might be the one that shipped with the drive. If you are using Vista, there is a 1.02 version out here.

The jumper settings had never been touched at all and it worked fine before the format.

I tried removing the IDE cable and power connector, went back into device manager and the HA5622D JUR420W SCSI CdRom Device is still present

Edit: I uninstalled the HA5622D JUR420W SCSI CdRom Device while the IDE and power was disconnected, turned off comp, reconnected the cables and then booted up again to find the HA5622D JUR420W SCSI CdRom Device back in device manager

k....
Have you had Alcohol 120% or similar virtual drive software loaded at any stage?
I have an Asus E616 and a LG GSA-H10N, plus a SCSI listed as "AXV CD/DVD-ROM", which is a virtual device only.

When you check the tabs on Device Manager for the optical drive listed in the properties dialogue, does anything there seem weird - region code, driver as listed etc?

Might be worth trying the "update driver" tab?

Out of interest, what is the HA5622D JUR420W - a quick check on Google yielded nothing, do you know?

edit: just had another thought What does the BIOS say about your drive? It obviously "saw" it, as you were able to reload the OS.

Yeap, I've had Daemon running.

Nothing seems really weird ... right I check the properties for it, it has General, Properties, DVD Region, Volume, Driver and Details tab.

Already tried the Update driver tab XD There isn't any drivers I can find to update it.

Google yielded nothing

And ... I'll go check the BIOS. I remember seeing something odd, but I can't remember what.

I've read recently somewhere about drives not being recognised due to conflicts with virtual drives like Daemon Tools, Alcohol etc. I'll see if I can find it again - maybe thats the issue.

edit:There's some info here about losing optical drives after loading Daemon - here and one and here about a bloke who lost USB stick access - Linky

Now I know it's Alcohol and not Daemon, but have a look here

Hopefully there's something in one of those spots that might assist.

No problem - the next time I do it to myself I'll be able to pull out the thread and follow the steps

I have this exact problem and am trying to work out what I need to do. Those links make no sense to me

I had daemon tools installed and I have since uninstalled it but still not working

EDIT: Just realised two important factors... I had alcohol 120% installed still and also the cd drive I'm using may be a dud as it came from a dead system Will see how things go when my new dvd drive shows up.

what about alcohol 120% or other virtual drive software?
if you unplug your DVD burner and it still shows in my computer, then its a virtual drive problem
