Default Poll: MacBook Pro vs. Vaio SZ

OK, I'm looking for a new machine...
Had these on the shortlist, and went to take a look today but was rather nastily surprised, see:
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=589285

My take:
SZ - Stunning hardware, portable, but Vista
MBP - Great software, questionable hardware?

Which would you have, and why?

Whats going on here?

Hardware wise I thought it'll go towards the MBP because it has a much better graphics card. But in saying that the hardware on a vaio sz will still do me well. Added to that, it's lighter and sexier so the vaio gets my vote. ^^

It's got a better graphics card but that's about it and neither are really machines anyone'd be using for gaming, I don't think.

I more meant in terms of build quality, I was really looking forward to an OSX machine, it was quite a shock.

i've never used the sony vaio thing. But im sitting here o my MBP. I see nothing wrong at all here with build quality....like nothing at all.

I enjoy its simply design, no stickers or anything stupid on it, just the keys, a touch pad (which blends in with the rest of its face) a power button and a small peephole for its webcam.

If your so interested in OSX. Buy the damn machine, i comes with a 1 year warranty so if anything does break anytime soon, it'll be fixed.

MBP from me, because i really od enjoy using OSX....never going back to windows.

The only Sony Vaio i'd get is the one that has 2 video cards, one onboard and one dedicated that you can switch between. Other than that, it's not worth it. MBP is the bomb (in terms of value/specs/coolness factor)

What are you using the laptop for?

If you're thinking of bringing it around, portability and battery life and the main elements at hand.

build quality of my mbp is fantastic. I had a 12" sony a couple of years ago that was just plastic (good, but still felt...plasticy)

That only Vaio being, this one.

Work, mostly. Love OSX but I'm really not sure about the hardware...

I don't have to carry it about too much, mostly just home -> office or somewhere -> hotel somewhere else, but the Vaio's definitely got a huge advantage here, it's close to 1/2 the weight and 2x the battery life.

This is what I keep hearing, but I just didn't see it after going and having a play with them yesterday, it really was quite a nasty surprise. (See the Apple thread linked in first post)

Discussion about the Apple build quality in there, but long story short I'm hoping the store was full of shit and had one that'd been on display and knocked around by curious bogans for a bit too long.
