Default Dell 1420 any good?

What are peoples thoughts on the Inspiron 1420?
I was so dead set on getting the XPS1330 but then i saw the 1420.
I like the 1420 because there is the option to choose the high resolution screen @ 1440x900. The only thing for me that the XPS1330 has over the 1420 is the smaller size and LED screen.

Yeah the 1420 has become very popular already due to its size and features. Price is good. You can get higher res than 1440x990 now with dedicated video card.

My thoughts exactly. The only real benefit is of the XPS1330 is the thinner frame and lighter weight but i think in my position that is outweighed by the cheaper cost of the 1420 and the high resolution screen.

Any deals you can forecast on the 1420 HellsAngel

Is there an even higher res screen available than the 1440x990? the only options I can find on the website are this and the 1280x800.

I was also thinking about the xps m1330, with one other advantage being the hdmi out. I think for the price though the 1420 looks pretty good. Plus how can you go past a brown computer

I don't think there is a higher resolution for the 1420 than the 1440x900. Even if it did i would not get it as everything will be too tiny on a 14" screen. I remember using my friends 15.4" widescreen that had a resolution of 1920x1200, I had to squint when using it.

The option isn't there from Dell directly, but you might be able to install XP yourself. You'll probably run into driver issues though

For some of the notebook models, they have both vista and XP pro options.
May be worthwhile ringing up Dell Sales to ask.

You can download the driver from dell website by entering the laptop service number. Those driver works fine even if the XP is not from dell image

Cool. Looks like they've got heaps of drivers, as long as they cover the newer hardware then you should be fine do a search first.
