Default MacBook Pro 17" issues?

Hi people,

Just got a macbook pro 17" today. So far it has been running beautifully except the following problems:

1. Battery cycles. It was purchased brand new/sealed. When I turned it on it showed me 2. After a reboot the number increased to 3 for no obvious reason

2. Optical drive. The drive doesn't eject discs as good as my previous ibook g4. ibook drive used to eject about 1/2 of the discs; however this mbp ejects about 1/3, which makes it hard to grab discs out of the drive - is this an issue?

3. Gap between screen frame corner and base is really, really unimpressive.

Other than these mbp 17 has been great, at least when comparing with my aging lenovo thinkpad t43

I have one too

1. I'm on 65 cycles after about 3 months, just leave it and if it continues then worry about it.

2. The optical drive ejects to half for me, perhaps because it is new? I'm not sure, but I seem to remember mine doing the same thing when I first got mine.

3. What screen gap? You can't go on a bitch about that, how does the damn thing shut then? It's not a small laptop after all....

Thanks Talleh.

1. I thought a new machine should've 0 cycle count. This was what happened for my ibook g4.

2. OD is getting better as you said. Prolly the cleaning foam was too tight...

3. I'm referring to the top left screen corner. It's not intact with the base. When I pressed the corner it touches the base fine. Guess it is bad assembling though...

Overall I'm satisfied with the monster

Do you mean when you close the lid? My first machine was like that, on both sides. Ended up having it replaced as the whole case was warped slightly. If your machine's working fine it shouldn't be an issue.

Yes the gap exists when the lid is closed. Did apple replace the whole machine for you or just the case? I don't want a new machine to be serviced

They replaced the whole machine. This was a week after I bought it. You have 14 days from purchase to get a full replacement/refund if there's something wrong with it.

Same with mine. It's a big display and I'm putting it down to that.
I have seen an abused 17" PowerBook with 5-10mm gaps on each side of the screen, but it was used as a drink coaster (ring marks on the lid) etc... so I cant really blame Apple on that!
