Oh, um.. That would be because your cpu doesn't have that.. Now I'm an idiot

I hope you really aren't running your CPU at 3.375v!!!

That said I would downclock your CPU to something like 2.66ghz and move it slowly up from there. It could be that your cpu just can't clock that high, which is certainly possible.

Oh yes did you plug in the 4 pin ATX 12v into your motherboard as well as the normal 24pin PSU plug?

According to Core temp 0.94 the CPU cores #0 and #1 are running at 83C?

Is this stupidly high? Perhaps this has something to do with the stability problem?

It's using the stock cooler.

That is waaaay too hot. Sounds like you have a bad mount. I'd suggest pulling the hsf off and having another go.

Yeah.....way too hot! It should be around half of that! Make sure you have pushed all the 4 plugs of the heatsink into the mounting holes of the motherboard until they are secure. Did your heatsink come with thermal pads? Maybe they forgot to include them or something.

I have the same motherboard and CPU as you and at load I get 36-39 degrees (granted it IS winter in Melbourne though.)

I haven't applied normal thermal paste before since I used Arctic Silver back in the XP1600 type days, but I just removed the HSF.

Looks like all the thermal paste has dried up. Tried to move a little of it around with a creditcard but it doesnt look normally sort of fluid. Is this normal?

Intel stock heatsinks normally come preapplied with a thin greyish kind of goop (it's actually shin etsu thermal pads). Best to apply your own thermal compound after cleaning that goop up and make sure to install the heatsink correctly this time! 83 Degs is really way too hot for those CPUs and will damage the CPU if left at that temperature for too long! No wonder orthos crashed after 2 min.

It's easier to apply thermal paste to CPUs nowadays since they all come with heatspreaders now, not like in the old days when Athlon CPU cores were exposed and there was a good chance of crushing them.

Your problem seems to be overheating of the CPU. Once that is fixed I'm sure your PC will be fine.

Follow these instructions when applying new thermal paste.

Could it be that the temperature sensor is screwy?

They're now both reading at 29c and 27c respectively, at 3ghz at 1.325V

At load?

I know the 965P-S3 sensor is normally quite reliable. It might have been the program you are using? Might I suggest using speedfan and see what temps you are getting at load.

Has nothing to do with the sensor on the mobo. The sensor that core temp reads is in the cpu itself.

Maybe he reseated the heatsink? That could account for the lower temps

CPUs are running between mid 40s and high 60s depending on ambient temp.

Was running it at 3ghz on the previous settings after the remount, but started getting random blue screens of death.

Back running stock now - not really sure what the deal is. Going to try and play with it this weekend.
