Thanks all
AuroythmiX** : i'd goto Rise again definately. Ocean Room was great, but not sure if I would go for the same menu twice. sormuijai : For any posts under 'howie' they were taken with a ixus 860 point and shoot. I think most posts under 'squishies' are taken with a nikon d80. And yes I need to try the laksa lol, every 2nd person I saw had the laksa! |

My new favourite restaurant in Sydney... Kobe Jones at King Street Wharf. Incredible food. The Dynamite rolls and scallops are amazing. Not the cheapest meal in town but worth the experience. Also as shown here http://www.bestrestaurants.com.au/citibank/
if you take at least 3 guests and use your Citibank card to pay you get a free bottle of wine

I went to Guillaume with a friend last weekend..
For an ex 3 hat restaraunt, I was expecting a bit more.. The restaraunt itself while inside the opera house, feels like it was renovated in the 1970s. The setup is really dreary. Onto the food! We actually skipped the Entree's and went to the mains.. WAGYU BEEF STRIPLOIN Grainge Angus Black Label (marble grade 9+) with a tombé of field mushrooms, baby spinach, confit of shallot, merlot sauce. Plus a side plate of mixed leaf + mashed potato.. The Wagyu was absolutely delightful.. Presentation exquisite! The sommelier was very helpful for when deciding what wines and he gave us good background information in regards to our choices.. For desert my friend had some of the Cheese Selection.. And I opted for the VANILLA BEAN CRÈME BRULEE with green apple sorbet and doughnuts.. I can't speak for the cheese, but my partner said it was awesome, though my Creme Brulee was probably one of the best Brulee I've had in Sydney.. The Green Apple sorbet had finely cut apple pieces on the side which give the sorbet a added texture.. Great night.. Though personally the setting feels old and outdated.. Not my style.. 8/10 |

Per person or for both?

For both, i just bought a new exhaust and ECU for my car
![]() It will be for a sat the wine will probably be on the cheaper side as the lady likes lighter fruity wines. I prefer a nice aged cab sav but can't argue ![]() I've done Wildfire before which normally hits that price mark depending on the wine I get. Service and atmo was great, the food was good but not amazing. Im also thinking Firefly which is only around $120 but provides a nice romantic but fun setting. The food was light and delicious. While Galileo is nice I think the atmo is to formal. Last edited by TRAG!C; 25th March 2008 at 3:15 PM. |

If you don't mind going out as far as Glebe, Restaurant Atelier will do a 7 course degustation menu with matching wines for $130 p.p. - 2 chefs hats... I've eaten there plenty and it's lovely - not had their degustation though.
Here's a link to their a la carte menu.

wow reading through this thread makes me realize two things
1. I'm hungry 2. I hate being a poor uni student that can't afford to go any of the cool places in this thread . (Guess I can try online poker and rake in 6 figures like AuroythmiX**, then i can go places )anyone have recommendations on restaurants that has decent food and not break the bank at $30 per head? Reading through this thread it looks like Kelly's Bar and Grill might fit the bill, would a medium pork rib fill you up or do you need to order more? |

Went to Tetsuya’s Restaurant last night for my birthday dinner
To summarise : Wow! Most of the courses were fish which went by impeccably well with me – I savoured every morsel and mouthful (although the crab ravioli wasn’t on par with the rest) and the Wagyu Beef with Lime & Wasabi was by far the best of the two meat dishes. His signature dish – Confit of Ocean Trout with the trout roe was utterly fantastic and with each cut into this dish a silent tear of appreciation was shed for not only the superb taste but flawless work of art this dish was! *Although* the Smoked Ocean Trout with Caviar and Scallop (for lack of a better description) egg looking concoction was on par if not finer! I enjoyed the deserts but they paled in comparison to the rest of the meal – a Melon Sorbet, Chestnut Mont Blanc and because it was my birthday a Chocolate Cake of sorts, while my +1 had the Chocolate Terrine which was nice. At a running time of 4 hours it was an epic affair with the time spent seated masked flawlessly. The food was continuously brought out with timed perfection so that there were no extended respites. This left your watch merely an ornamental weight holding back your hand from this gorgeous array of food! Truffle butter was excellent – I think the table next to me ended up having three rolls a piece! Might have a hand at making it myself (you can buy the Truffle Salsa to mix into whatever you desire). We also had the freshly shuked oysters with grapeseed oil, rice vinegar, soy and ginger which was an extra - although oysters are not my seafood of choice this converted me quicker than you can say amen. Atmosphere was nice – tables were spaced sufficiently so that the adjoining conversations were merely an echo in the background. Unless I get a raise sometime soon I think this Restaurant is best left for those special occasions (although I’ll make up an excuse to go anyway) and I think my next booking will be accompanied by the matching wines!

Happy Birthday! Good to hear you thought so highly of it.
Great write-up too...somewhat more eloquent than mine, I have to say. ![]() I can highly recommend it, though keep in mind it is a lot of wine, (particularly if you offer to "help" other people in your party with the wine they can't finish). You definitely couldn't drive after it. Cheers, - Febs.
