Correct. That's why I think it is WAAAY to early. I'm guessing that their just announcing it, and then commence hardcore work on a new and redefined engine, but they won't release to dec 2008 or as 90% more probable, 2009.

Yeah, i think there's going to be alot of people pissed off about this... alot of people were saying that ARMA was really just a way to get money together so that they could make the 'real' version of arma or VBS. Seems like they shoulda just hung out for another year and brought this version out.

I think most realised in the community Armed Assault was just essentially Flashpoint 1.5. Bohemia Interactive Forums have had a section dedicated to this 'Game 2' for a long while, with plenty of speculation and rare glimpses of a screenshot or two, this announcement was just officially confirming the obvious.

This essentially is Op Flash 2. I think they were trying to sell it to Codemasters as such (there was hints on the BIS site), until it was revealed that Codemasters have been working on it with an in house team. And yeah, the engine is meant to be the true next iteration, with ArmA well known as being "1.5".

The thing that will keep Arma and Arma 2 alive is the ability to mod it to hell and back.
but if OFP 2 is any ware near as modifiable as Arma, and really turns out better it may have some real competition.

Flashpoint is one of the greatest games ever, these guys know how to make games. Arma is a diamond in the rough, it still needs a lot of patching and bugfixing, I dont think BIS had a choice really they needed Arma on the market as they were running low on funds .

They have to dump the game engine. It is too old. Nonetheless, it should be good.

Arma is awesome, and Arma 2 will be even more awesome. I am just going to live the moment, rather then waste my time speculating the future of a VIDEO GAME.
