Default Soundmax and Vista 5.1 problems

Hi, hopefully someone can help me :S

When i try to plug my speakers (z-680) into my onboard soundcard (Asus p5k-e) using the audio jacks (plugs for center/sub, rear, front) , the only sound i can get is when i test the speakers in the speakers/configure option (and even then the front left and front right speakers dont work ).

I have read problems with the adi1988 and Vista but i can find any solutions.

I can get sound with the coax connector, but this only results in stereo sound output and i want the full surround for games.

ZZZ @ Vista, i have only had problems since i installed it.

I have updated to the latest drivers and a bunch of other drivers.

I have read the stickies.

Well, sorry folks, but the only way you're going to get proper surround sound from your 3D games with your current sound card is to hook up your speakers using all those seperate analogue plugs you probably have at the back of your computer.

the other thing to try would be to update your bios to a later revision as well, i know that with alot of the early P5 boards there were some 5.1 issues in Vista - i do remember that updating both bios and drivers fixed that up. Worst board for this problem was the cheap and popular P5LD2 SE, but a bios update and new drivers fixed it up perfectly.

Sorry about the stickies comment but alot of people don't realise that 5.1 in Games will not necessarily work with every game.

Fixed mine with an option called "Turn DSP Process on or off" in Blackhawk.
