Regarding Vent, i used to use it during WoW raids etc, though i tried re-installing and i am having compatability issues (re: transmission) with my Vista premium 32-bit. Anyone know how to get around such a problem?




edit: Answer for vista users having trouble with transmitting while in TF2:

Right click on your Ventrilo shortcut and select "properties". Open the "compatibility" tab and near the bottom tick the box: "run the program as an administrator".Then click "ok". This may also have to be done in correlation to the "Run this program in compatability mode for: Windows XP (Service pack 2)" option.

What's your issue? In-game crashing or on loading? Also, if you're able to get a bluescreen/other type of error report, it will tell you if it's a driver, and if so which it is, that is causing it. The minimise/maximise thing I can usually fix by alt-tabbing out then back in again.

I think you managed to get a following of other trolls, such as bigandy, in that thread. im fairly sure that anyone who had an ounce of empathy for the OP wouldnt find it funny that you and co were baiting him into something that he would regret in years to come. while im all for different forms of comedy, and it was a very good baiting attempt, there is a limit and it was past what i find funny. anyway this is off the original topic.

i had noticed that shit isnt censored along with fuck. he is a new member, chances are he isnt going to know every word that is and isnt censored yet. if he had gone back and (non ninja)edited his post shortly after posting to bypass the filter i could understand but the way he posted it doesnt imply (to me) that it was a deliberate attempt.
if i was a new naive member, it would make sense to use something like sh1t as well to bypass the filter. after i realised that it isnt filtered i would go back and edit it to something e-tuff like shit. he has edited it now to be censored so i guess this point is null.

Yeah, just so the people watching the demo can't hear us, pretty much. It might make it more interesting for the people watching to be able to hear us, but I don't really like the idea of it.

Also, if both teams use in-game voice chat it can become a mess listening to it in SourceTV.

I doubt voice chat will drown out the shoutcasting though (if you have it at a decent volume) and you can just turn down the TF2 volume anyway.

With that said, it's not really that much of a problem. It was just a suggestion, and I don't think a lot of OCAU have Vent/TS either (some without mics too), so we might not be able to end up using it anyway.

vista64 here, and yes I get that some times. not so often anymore.

Not this one. I bring up task manager and I can't even click on things or use up-down keys to get to it easily at all. It literally locks itself.

I know of the min/max thing happening (it used to be pretty bad with CS on some video drivers I used years ago), but this doesn't seem to be the same. It's rare enough that I'm not too bothered by it, thank god.

Have you tried checking your RAM? It may be that 'damn stable otherwise' means you're not using the damaged RAM part. *shrug*

That'd be my first port of call, at least. Again, it'd help if you can get some debug data, as that'll say -why- it's crashing.

I have a problem with my computer: I click "Steam", and it says "Updating Steam", then it says nothing. After a while I go and kill Steam.exe.

I've done this a few times now, it's getting old. Do I have to do something drastic like restarting my computer?
