Yeah you can, you dont exactly need TF2 either. A HL2 install will give you a large chunk of the source content you need and should shrink the amount you need to download a fair bit.

Apologies if this has already been asked but im hosting a lan in a week and im looking at playing TF2. Im downloading it now at home but was just wondering if this can be played locally or do I need to play it on line?

Steam prefers to be online to authenticate etc but u can play it at LAN's etc. If your going to be offline you need to go into the settings and put it into offline mode.

I just bought this game today and it said I've got some free guest passes to give to friends.
I dont know anyone who would want it. Does anyone want them?
