Default where is the logic behind laptop pricing?

I've been looking for a laptop for a while now. Concentrating on 13 or 14" but not ruling out a tricked out 15" either. But the more I look the more I'm convinced laptop sellers are high. I cannot understand how they come up with some of their prices when two similarly speced machines have huge $500+ price difference what am I missing? and not just between manufacturers, I cannot figure out Asus prices at all. here are some examples:

Asus VS2 - $2699 - similarly speced Lenovo 3000 N - $1899 (both delivered). Sure small differences in the specs but not what I would consider $800 worth.

But then Asus sell a tricked out 13.3" laptop, the W7S for $2300, way less than most other similarly speced 13.3" laptops eg Sony VAIO SZ48GNC ~ 3299

And even within Asus's range, the Asus G1S is like $900 more than a better speced (but uglier) Asus F3SV.

ARRRRHHHHHH...

it's like they want consumers confused <_< What am I missing?

Your first example, the difference between the video cards is night and day, plus asus has better resolution. But the price is mainly in the GFX.

With the sony 13", the charge a huge premium because they make such slick and stylish laptops.

Last example, once again the GFX in the G1S blows the F3SV out of the water.

I found that the difference in latop pricing is either in style, or the graphics card. You obviously dont want a laptop for gaming so you weren't looking at the GFXs.

Sony laptops tend to have great built quality as well, and I think the SZ series have an ultra thin LED backlit LCD screen, which costs alot more...

If you want something cheap though, Dell can probably do you the best deal

OK granted I know fsck all about graphics cards these days, especially laptop ones. But is there really that big a difference between the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPU, External 256MB GDDR3 VRAM in the G1S and the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS External DDRII 256MB in the F3SV?

There isn't a huge difference between the two Asuses (or Asussi). The 8600m GT is faster by about 20 % at most. (on 3dmark06 at least). I can get a 8600m GS (o/c) to 3100 on 3dmark06. The GT can do it in 3500-4000 depending on o/c. How that translates into FPS. Probably a few at most. In the F3Sv I can play Crysis on 1024x768 with medium/high settings at a REASONABLE Fps.

you're also comparing prices from various sources. There can be a big difference between pricing across stores (hundreds of of dollars worth)
