I have a Toshiba notebook that has worked very well for the last 2 years. It has however developed a problem that started about a month ago. The LCD does not work. When it powers up, it is red, but then it just completely turns off. I have tried replacing the inverter, which did not work. It works fine on an external monitor.
Do you think it worth me trying to replace the complete panel or just sell it as it is and replace it? An ideas if I replace the LCD if that will fix it? Is it possible that it is a problem with something more then the LCD (like something wrong with the motherboard)?

Typically the colour bias problem is related to the controller on the back of the LCD panel. The quick (and break/fix solution) is to replace the entire LCD panel. The more technical method is replacing the actual controller on the panel, but this requires sourcing an exact same panel and pulling it apart.
Check out the ebay sites, as replacement screens do tend to crop up occasionally.

Thanks. I originally thought that it was an inverter problem as I can still see an image on the screen after the backlight goes off, and I thought that might be because the inverter was not powering the backlight. I had a check on ebay and a replacement screen can be had for about £65 dilivered (in the UK). Might be an option worth considering instead of spending £350+ to upgrade to a new notebook.
Thanks again for your help. Oh and BTW, since I am replacing the screen anyway, is it possible to replace the screen with something that is higher in resolution?

I don't really know to be honest. Being a different panel type i might be a bit of a gamble to get everything right, from the physical screw hole locations on the side of the panel to attach to the hinges, to the power requirements from the inverter, to the screen cable attachment...
If it was an option when originally being purchased then it might be possible, but I wouldn't bother going that far.
