hey guys im in the market for a ultraportable laptop. not looking at spending more than 1.5grand. I import stuff from china, mainly electronics and resell on the web, paper etc so naturally i have quite a few good contacts with chines manufactures. One of which is manufacturing 10.6" laptops. similar to this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/10-6-Pentium-...QQcmdZViewItem however the one they are manufacturing is a 1.3GHZ(also pent M) and dvd/cd burner. im not looking for a super fast computer or any thing like that, just some thing that will handle movies, Internet, excel, myob, Microsoft office and the occasional online game such as quake. i dont care that its asian, after all my phone is asian and form one of these manufactures and its the best little hard nut ive ever had!! What do you think spec wise? i can get it for $850-$950 or i may be able to talk them down to $750 seeing as im a regular. |

It looks decent. The biggest problem is the GPU - Intel Extreme Graphics 2 is really quite ancient now. I'm not sure whether it'll even work with Vista; it definitely won't work with Aero.

Looks pretty good though, should run XP fine, though I agree Vista might be a stretch. No mention of Blue tooth though which is a little odd.

Yikes that's heavy - 1.5kg. My Latitude D420 was $1100 (slightly cheaper than that thing), has a 12.1" screen, though only 1.36kg, 1.5GB of mem and a ULV Core Duo.

problem is for me 12.1" is to big. i like the small things :P my unique asian phone is about 5x2x1cm
i may be able to talk to the manufacture, im a regular customer of theirs so i may be able t get them to change the gpu. would the one included be able to handle online games such as quake, maple story or possible AA? |

hey that looks like what im after, nice and small. I'd be after one of them myself if a better GPU could be had and a smaller hdd (not to bothered by the size just wouldnt need that much on a laptop).
Are the ones you can get come with XP? That size and price would be sweet.

I doubt you can fit a larger card in there, iirc MSI fit a 7400 into something of that size though. |

Mmm for what it is, its seriously overpriced. If your looking for something small and cheap, a D420 would be a good idea. A lot are on ebay as dell sold them off cheaply via the outlet/similar.
If you want a graphics card, try to grab a m1210. They are a bit fat, but I got mine ex-demo for $750 a couple of months ago. Pretty cheap. And they have dual core cpu's and a 7400 (in most).

Intel Extreme Graphics 2 was considered really slow when it was released - and that was more than four years ago (and that was the desktop version, which is quicker than the mobile version). I'd guess that it'll handle CS/AA/Q3 at around 800x600 without too many problems. Anything more stressful than that won't work well.

That's a rebadged Twinhead notebook from the looks of it. They make decent stuff, my mum has a 12.1" Twinhead which is really nice, also pretty sturdy, she dropped it off a standard table with no damage at all.
They're one of only a few notebook companies that build their own stuff (along with apple, asus & dell i believe). Twinhead also make military strong laptops, so maybe that build quality flows through their consumer line. http://www.surpass.com.au/content/st...asp?name=TH10D http://www.twinhead.com.au/product_d...tid=220&type=1 10" model not on website anymore, this is 11".

Highly recommend a second hand toshiba portege, i think the R100 and the R200 are by far the best ultra-portables, mainly because they have full size keyboards, noone else does.
something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-Portege-...QQcmdZViewItem probably up the ram and the hdd. |
