Audio-Technica ATH-A900, various mods:

DIY Speakers (Response drivers) + A2760 (preamp removed):

not using these much since they sound crap up on the shelf, so i'm going to turn them into floorstanders and add a midrange (the woofer isn't particularly spectacular beyond 1000hz, and the tweeter below 4000hz, so i need to fill the gap) .

Which woofer + tweeter are they? Is it the 8" woofer or 6.5"? I'm running the 8" < 250Hz, what appears to be that same tweeter > 4KHz, and a pair of 4ohm 5"s in between. My 8"s are sealed however because I have a sub for the really low-end duties.

8" Polycone (jaycar/electus CW2136) and the 8ohm response tweeter (CT2010)

Arcadia = Wixy on SNA? A few of these systems look familiar!

My 2ch system:

Source: Cary CD-306 SACD
Preamp: Cary SLP-05 with NOS tubes
Power amp: Cary CAD-211AE with NOS tubes
Speakers: Acapella High Violon Suboktav

The full system at night.

Vertically bi-amped with Cary CAD-805AE driving the top, and Cary CAD-211AE driving the bottom. I decided that I could not afford to keep both amps, so I let the 805AE go.

Treble is a plasma driver from 5000Hz to 40,000Hz, midrange is a horn (800Hz to 5000Hz), and bottom end is a woofer with an internal passive radiator (30Hz to 800Hz). The speed of the midrange and top end is exceptional but the bass leaves a bit to be desired.

I can't even imagine what that set up might sound like.
Looks unbelievably expensive.

I have...

A pair of Audio Technica AD400s
running from a Chaintech AV-710.

It's nothing special but I like it. Going to get some speakers and a cheap amp over the uni Christmas holidays.

I had the system in my sig but now my brother has the Azur and I'm using his DSE amp and some LSK F5's till I can afford to get/build something better. Also had a Behringer 500W power amp and a jaycar sub controller powering a 12" sub in the corner but it was a bit too much.

$60k for the speakers and it still leaves a bit to be desired! you SNA freaks are never happy are you?

I've got a pair of B&W bookshelfs and an old NAD amp, nothing to call home about but does the job. I should really stop reading SNA just makes you want to drain your bank account almost daily.

Man it just makes me happy I haven't blown so much money on an audio setup when I can get similar sound for a lot less. Pitty I can't speak the same way about my other hobbies...

here are some quick pics:

squeezebox3/studer a727 -> coaxial/spdif -> apogee mini-dac -> firstwatt f2 -> coral beta 8s in bass reflex box

i think the amp needs a little of attention as there is an audible hum

previous setup was without the dac and using a nad 3020e amp.. with the new dac and amp i can clearly distinguish between good/poor recordings

using the squeezebox via wireless and my laptop which also connects to the wireless network causes the squeezebox to cut out from time to time which is huge pain in the arse
