This is the 'study' setup. (As taken from 'Show us your desktop thread' in the pub).

Couple of DIY bookshelves (Vifa drivers), Rose Voix Muse amp, Pro Dac (under desk) and jsut play EAC Lame-encoded MP3s at V0 encoding (which I can't pick the difference to FLAC).

Sounds damn good for <$600 I reckon (not inc PC obviously).

Is that at me?

Well the drivers I'm using are Jordan JXr6HD.
I got them from decibelhifi - the guy's name is Brian and he's pretty alright. He also sells a 4 speaker faceplate, and gave me the idea for a free air array.

I'm planning on picking up some jarrah from timberdirect. Not all that awesome with the wood building skills but i'm willing to give it a go. The drivers were a fair chunk of savings though, so i'm leaving it a little bit.

Building the amp at the moment though. Altonics ULD kit. Gonna be awesome!

I got my new Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's yesterday, and coupled them with my dad's old Luxman 5L15 Amp. It works to to be a nice combo, a big purchase for me even though they are only budget Bookshelfs.

Hardly budget dude. They are supposed to be a very nice sounding speaker. Rest assured they will whipe their ass with any POS Logicrap or other so called PC speakers.

In fact I used or still own a set of Logitech Z-2300's which i have relegated to the wife's PC. Whenever I hear them, I cannot ever imagine how I used to listen to such crap quality sound. Sure there's plenty of bass but nothing else.

Yeah, $299 on speakers is a lot to me (I'm 16), but i'm sure some people would call it budget. They have much better bass than my X530's, which surprised me.

Yesterday when i went into Clef Hifi, i didn't expect to be buying speakers, but after hearing a few tracks i was sold.

Hey - just noticed that.
How did like building the SS Millet?
Did you go with one of the kits, or source or the parts locally?

It was a fun experience. The point to point wiring did sometimes get to you though. Tried to keep everything twisted and short, thing doesn't really expand more than its length.

Parts wise i closely followed rds's (on head-fi) implementation of it. 90% of the parts were sourced from Mouser, the tubes were off eBay.

Make sure you can get some tubes before going with the build though. Im not sure on the status right now on them, but 4-6months ago they were even scarce on ebay.

I was thinking about it - but I can't justify it in that I don't think it would get used! Would be fun though!

Great shop, going down stairs there makes my wallet run for the hills, the customer service is tops. i was eying off the 9.1's before i bought the A5's

a few things have changed in my setup

i modded my A5's so they accept a normal banana plug and made some cables

and i added a sub i managed to pick up cheap.

(SNIP)
This thread is a bit too dead for my liking, so i have decided to revive it with my recent setup upgrades.

The Luxman was a great amp, but had a messed up left channel, which was lees than ideal, so i replaced it with a Yamaha RX-461 Receiver i got of eBay, it is a decent receiver and having a remote is great! I also wall mounted the speakers as i didn't have enough free space on my desk for schoolwork.

Its like this setup is a never ending cycle of spending, i bought the speakers, then had to buy the receiver because my amp stopped working properly, and now i am looking for a decent sub-woofer, i keep telling myself that i'm only 16 and don't need to keep wasting my money on this stuff... but i keep buying things!

Well enough with my rambling, here are the pics:

Whole setup:

Yamaha Receiver and right Speaker with new wall mount

Left speaker with wall mount

Please excuse the dust and clutter in these pics! I think I'll have a cleanup tomorrow after seeing how bad it looks in the pics

My relatively humble setup, it's in a less than optimal environment though as my bedroom is so small. I can't wait to set up a dedicated room for my music stuff when I get my own place

Speakers: Orpheus Aurora 1 on Vogels stands (filled with sand). Bi-wired custom speaker cables with gold plated banana plugs

Amp: Nad C320BEE with Tara Labs RSC link (pre-amp to power amp section link)

Sources: NAD C521BEE CD player, E-MU 0202 USB fed from Foobar2k and controlled by the Iphone's Remote app, Technics SL1200 Mk2 with Denon DL-110 cart, fed into Cambridge 540P stage.
