Nah it's only around 5 years old. NAD never really change their design much, so it looks older than it is

TBH I hardly use mine now, as I just sacrifice a bit of sound quality for convenience and use MP3 from the computer

I can't bring myself to get rid of this CDP though, as I've got a decent collection of CD's still.

That's what I was thinking, it looks just the same as they did in the Hi-Fi News and Record Review that I used to read back in the 80's and 90's.

I've only just discovered this thread, so I'll have to get some pics of my early 80's setup. It's still my only setup. I haven't moved into the 21st Century yet!

Heh, when I bought this setup I deliberately bought it in the silver colour instead of the traditional NAD grey (which I like!), as I knew I'd be keeping it for years and the missus won't want an old looking grey stereo on display

Yeah get some pics of your setup, 80's gear is the best! Some very nice sounding stuff was made back then.

I have been slowly getting around to converting my CDs to FLAC, but i just get lazy and play them back off the CDs. I had an older Sony DVD player under the receiver for a while which absolutely smashed the PC in terms of playback quality on CDs, but the speaker mounts meant i couldn't fit it anymore.

OK first a trip down memory lane and an update on my system

1992: First system. Mission 760i speakers, Marantz CD-52, NAD 3020i amp

1994: Student system. Audio Definition Signature speakers (still have em), Sota Sapphire turntable + Sumiko FT4 arm + Sumiko BPS cartridge, Marantz CD-52, Pioneer A-400 amp (still have em!). This system served me until 2006.

Sota Sapphire turntable. Excellent TT for the money.

2010:
Sources: Cary CD306 SACD player, Micro-Seiki BL-99V turntable + vacuum hold-down + Micro-Seiki MA505 tonearm + Lyra Dorian Cartridge + RCM Sensor Prelude phono preamp
Amplification: Cary SLP-05 preamp, Cary CAD-211AE power amp monoblocks
Speakers: Acapella High Violon speaker + JL Audio F110 subwoofer (pair)

The Micro Seiki turntable. The vacuum system works by sucking the record down to the platter. This eliminates warp and couples the record tightly to the platter.

JL Audio subwoofer. The low pass to the sub is set at 80Hz. This removes low bass from the main speakers, which increases apparent amplifier power and provides more dynamic headroom. Also, woofer cone breakup in the main speakers is minimized because the cone excursion is now less.

Cary CAD-211AE power amp. 110W push-pull triode with 6SN7 input, 300B main, and 845 driver tubes.

The electronics.

Keith, you win the internet.

That is an absolutely beautiful setup and I hope to be able to have something like that in the future

That TT and the tube amp are pure sex

Amfibius won't like being asked that. You can google for prices if you want but I'm estimating that the cost has gone north of 6 figures.

Yeah that is correct. Some people have car stereo systems which cost more than their cars. At least my home audio doesn't cost more than my house ... yet

To be fair, it's pretty easy when the car only set you back $1200.

My setup is very basic but sounds much nicer than the old one.
Inherited all the gear from my stepdad, was looking for a 2 channel amp and some bookshelves to go with it and he said to take these because my mum won't let him set them up with the TV. Silly woman, but his loss is my gain.

Wharfedale Diamond 7.1 bookshelves, about 12-15 years old from memory, he got them not long after mum met him.

Misc Pioneer tape/CD stacker/radio/amp. Also has a record player, but I don't have any records and the plastic cover on top of it seems delicate, so it's stashed safely in the cupboard.

They're far better quality than the crappy plastic speakers+eBay purchased AKAI 2channel amp I used to have, although I had those for quite a few years and they never let me down.
