Default Laptop media centre PC?

I was thinking of using my laptop as a media centre PC, which it sort of is already, but replacing the TV it is not as yet.
I have Windows MCE on my laptop, i have a usb digital tv tuner with radio & remote. I have a media centre remote, with infrared receiver. I have a 250GB external hard drive. And i have decent 2.1 speakers. And a bluetooth mouse (no keyboard yet).
Now add a Acer 22" LCD to that for only $299, and i've got a pretty nice setup without spending $600 for a 22" LCD TV.

Just wondering whether this is practical, say watching ~4hrs of TV a day, using laptop for other stuff aslo. Would this be flogging the shit out of it, are laptops bad options for MC PC's (with external 22" LCD)? Mine's a 12" laptop, C2D 1.83, 1gb 677, 80gb 7200, 256mb Gforce TC.
