Default Pro Blu-ray Discussion Thread

I thought we could have a discussion thread where we can talk about whats going on with Blu-ray, future releases, specials etc.

With the release of the new 40GB PS3 coming out under $700 it's very positive for both Sony and Blu-ray supporters and it should hopefully increase the market share.

Even if your not a Blu-ray fanatic but have a PS3 the logical choice for people in the next gen movie department is Blu-ray as it's already avalible.

This thread is simply for people who are Blu-ray enthusiasts and we can keep the flame war crap out of it.

Some good sources for news on whats happening in the world of Blu-ray is

http://www.blu-ray.com/
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/

HD DVD vs Blu-ray Article @ EnGadget
http://www.engadget.com/2005/09/19/b...on-s-division/

Some of the more exciting news as of late is

300 Sold 400,000 Copies in HD with Blu-ray having a 2:1 sell rate against HD-DVD
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...Top_400K_/1059
Hitachi 100GB Quad Layer Blu-ray disc will be supported on PS3

Blu-Ray is half the reason I bought my PS3 for.
Open Season has never looked so good on my LCD.

Still there's big support for it. Just look at JB-hifi on their website there's only a Blu-Ray banner and no hd-dvd titles are offered in their store. Blockbuster has also gone pro-blu-ray.

Thats because they were paid to be... cough..cough.. are bd exclusive.

BB ehmm.. Netflix, America's biggest online video rental business, rent more HD DVD's than Blu-ray. Close to two thirds of their customers stated that HD DVD is their preferred choice.

Paramount /Dreamworks went HD DVD exclusive.

Point being HD DVD isnt going away. It has as much chance as Blu-ray of becoming the replacement for the DVD. Which is not forseeable for either of the formats for a long time.

Are Blu-Ray players multi zone-able yet? this is my main reason for being anti Blu Ray Sony and their region code issues...

did you read about the new 100 gig br disks that are supposedly readable with current players with a firmware upgrade? would be nice to see 2 disc spedial editions shrunk to 1.

Read about them. Problem is, we don't know how much they cost. If they price it right (assuming that its technically possible to do so), that might take off.

Even HD-DVD is following the trend and is developing multi layer disks with higher capacity.

TOX weren't you given a whole shitload of BR stuff for free? I wouldn't be surprised that you are only banging on about it because it was a agreement that you made with them to get them for free.

oh waaaa.

Blu Ray is a more advanced technology. It's limitations are far less than HD DVD. Nuff said.

Blu-ray FTW!
Higher per layer capacity and hardened protection coating (against scratches and fingerprints) is a huge plus over HD-DVD.

Has a higher theoretical limit for the max capacity.
