Default acer video output question

Someone asked me to look at a problem, main problem is that it is over the phone and i dont have much knowledge about the area.

Basically when the guy hits FN+F5 the laptop does nothing. Yet he says on the other Acer laptops he has it brings up a applet that lets him choose options etc.

I dont have a acer laptop to try so i was wondering if this was just a piece of software needed to be installed? Acers download site is pretty cryptic and after explaning four times to the dumb acer cso i hang up. So hopefully someone here can help me.

Thanks

on my acer laptop, FN+F5 is a "Display toggle - Switches display output between the notebook LCD, an external monitor and both the notebook LCD and external monitor"

FN+F2 or F3 is the one that lets me choose my options, it opens up eSettings or ePowermanagement.

To answer to question, yes it is a software, and is usually pre-installed with the laptop already.
