Default Dell M1300, Acer 6292 or Macbook??

Hey.

I need a new laptop for school and am flipping up between a dell m1330 (~$3000), Acer Travelmate 6292 (school is selling and recommending, ~$2350) or an Apple Macbook (~$2400).

I have to pay anything over the $2350. I'm going to get at least 3 year's warranty with them all. The Macbook i would run mac instead of windows. is this a good idea? Will it work with my home network where all pc's are windows and i have a NAS device, will i b able to access this with mac?

Please let me know on your suggestings.

Thanks,
sherman

The 6292 doesn't look to be a bad little kit, Acer have lifted their game with this offering. The last 12" TravelMate they offered had an external DVD drive, which was a royal pain. But to finally incorporate it, it looks quite good. Has a 1280x800 resolution LCD too, which I was surprised to see on a screen that size. I'm actually using a 6492 at the moment, which is the 14" 'bigger brother'.

I can't really offer my opinion on either of the other two sorry. Check out the warranty service offered on all three, not just the length. Things like where you have to take it to get it serviced, what SLA brackets the companies have in place to ensure a reasonable turn around time...

what sort or prices are these? with the macbook you can get the basic model for $1449 with a educational discount.

personally I wouldn't get a acer so then if you wanted dedicated graphics I would go dell or integrated go for a macbook

These prices are for either a 2.0 or 2.2ghz core 2 duo with at least 2gb ram and at least 160gb hdd. I don't really care about graphics as i don't play games all that much and if i do it'll be on my desktop.

Can anyone tell me if the new leopard os for mac is any good?
Is mac compatible with windows based networks?

finally, would you get a mac OS or windows OS?

thanks

Macbook + VMWare Fusion + Windows XP Pro =

Apple can charge quite a bit for extra ram, just buy the most minimal configuration you can and add additional Kingston memory.

To be perfectly honest I haven't used Parralels myself, only Fusion... and I love it. All the feedback from people I know (a lot who have been using Parralels up until recently) and reviews online mostly lean towards Fusion as being the better product. You can download a full trial version and use it for30 days when the time comes

Yeah you can. I use Fusion and can run Mac OSX and Windows XP Pro at the same time. I can dock my Windows apps to the Apple dock and open Windows apps from the app launcher without having to have the Windows session open in full screen. My Windows session is also authenticated to an Active Directory Domain, I can mount Windows network shares etc, connect to my Exchange mail server... I'm not missing out on any functionality at all. Plus with the Fusion session, I can back it up and load it onto ANY machine with Fusion installed and it'll boot, with all my files, settings and preferences.

Ok, that sounds kool.

I was wondering has anyone heard of anything about new macbooks/macbook pros that are coming out early Jan next year. One of my friends is telling him that Apple will be released new Macbooks early Jan, can anyone back him up? As anyone else heard anything about this?

thanks,
Ash

macbooks were just updated a few days ago... they now have santa rosa, x3100 graphics. This means they will not be updated for quite a while now. Meanwhile, the macbook pro's could be updated as early as jan in macworld.

I myself was deciding on the macbook or xps m1330... I decided the macbook and have already ordered one! can't wait

a number of things, but mainly:

- leopard, nice clean design, has everything I need and nothing I don't

in terms of performance, the two machines are pretty much the same (expect if you're gaming), the macbook just adds the extra perks that the dell doesn't

youre deluding yourself if you think thats the case.

october 05 - G5 imac released.

jan 06 - intel core duo imac announced.

just goes to show apple's done it before, and they'll do it again.

people on mactalk are saying a new macbook will be released around jan/feb. couldnt have picked a worse time to be buying a macbook really.
