hey guys
I am going to be working in a hospital all the time next year and I want to get a PDA so i can load some books onto it (im training to be a doctor). It would be good to have it as a mobile, music, gps, pretty fast OS etc and obviously easy to use ohhh and longish battery life any recommendations with current ones or some that will be coming out soon that will blow the market apart?

If you don't want the phone built-in ... Eten probably make something that will fit the bill, though I'm not sure how good the warranty support is here. Or maybe the latest in the Dell Axim range? I know the older ones were highly regarded, so I'd expect the latest revisions to be similarly impressive. Asus also released one (though the model name escapes me) around 8-10 months ago now that was highly recommended to me by OrganiserWorld here in Melbourne; there may be an updated model, or that (older) model may now be available cheaper.

Palm is easier to use by a mile, but if you want to add programs, some might not be compatible. In your case, I would go windows. If you don't need a phone with it, the ipaq 200 series is coming out soon (within a month or so) and it has an awesome large vga screen, so it can fit more text in (this is definately handy... means you'll need to scroll less etc...).

Have you picked a PDA yet? My sister is an intern next year and is looking for something to run AMH with or without phone functionality. Let me know which ones you've looked at if you didn't buy already.
Also, does anyone know what good clinical software is available? Can you get things like OHCM or Therapeutic Guidelines for PDAs? We have access to them through the net, but they would be handy to have on the wards without requiring 3G.

I've been using an Ipaq for 9 months at work, and you will want to be REALLY certain about what you get. GPRS with *ptus kills the PDA (hard reset!!!!) when it drops out, plus the inevitable drops do bad things to it. I would restrict my budget to a used O2 Mini or something similar that is cheap. You will thank me later - early adopters get hit really hard in this market. Better to spend 300 bucks on 3 O2s over 18 months than 1500 bucks on a high end PDA that is obselete in 12 months and had a battery die and the screen crack.
Leave the power computing to a laptop

yeah that is true and i agree. however, the size of the screen is the thing that is grabbing me. most of the pdas are normally 2.8 inch in size however this new hp is 4inch. that is a massive difference so i think i might just hang out for that one. considering the main use i will get out of this pda is simply reading textbooks on it.

The O2 XDA Flame has received some good reviews (such as ... ) and can be e-tailed for about $920 (or $700-ish on e-bay ... )

My sister's after one that doesn't have a phone built in.
Considering the OHCM and AMH are both available on Palm and Windows, I've been looking at the Palm TX and HP iPaq Classic 112. Any comments on either of these? I think the Palm would be a better choice for reading reference texts since it has a higher resolution and larger screen.
