Default What the best codec pack to get..?

Well I've got some codec pack that I typically used up until now, but I'm just curious as to whether or not there is some clear 'best' codec pack to download out there...

I know I can just download VLC Player which plays basically everything but I like media player...

Any suggestions would be great, even if you'd recommend to use a completely different player, I'm open to everything.

Combined Community Codec Pack

I'm yet to have a conflict, or find a file that this pack won't play.

I used to use the Cole2k pack, it seemed to play about everything by itself without any other packs used, although I haven't looked back since VLC, its not half as over bloated as Windows media player

Yeah... You can get portable VLC too, I have it on my iPod hehe...

I've been told that alot of Codec Packs come with other spyware etc in them, is this true? Do the ones mentioned above come with none of this?

Up until now I've used the All-In-1 Codec Pack, Version 6.0.3.0, not sure if its any good, it seems to have played almost everything I ever threw at it...

Codecs:ffdshow-tryouts (newest version)
If you're a bit inexperienced with codecs and setup then CCCP is the answer.

Players: The KM Player Its feature rich and works well on my computer.

K-Lite codec pack has never failed me.
Includes all codecs i have ever needed and Media Play Classic.

Information can be found here:
http://www.codecguide.com/
There are 'lite' and 'mega' packs. I highly recommend this

FFDShow, because it's legal, and wont fuck up your system.

Or get a 'codec pack' that includes FFDShow as well as various other media splitters...or use Media Player Classic which has most splitters built in anyway.

I had no issues using k-lite with xp pro but with MCE it is shocking causes lots of video playback problems, ffdshow works perfectly with both. However, I cant comment on vista as i haven't made the leap yet

Very much a matter of opinion but I've always gone with ffdshow and sometimes with klite codec pack, both have been good, but my preference is for ffdshow.
