Default Computer randomly turns itself on mute

My cousins computer randomly turns itself on mute.
What wrong with it? is it a virus? or something different?

maybe he's bumping the mute button on his keyboard, or for that matter has a dodgy mute button?

Nah, thats the way he turns it off when it mutes itself.

Could still be a sticky mute key. Get him to use a keyboard which doesn't have the multimedia buttons.
