Question A7v133 & 256mb Pc133 Sdram Ramm

Well i recently bought and installed a new m/b which is an ASUS A7V133.
I Put my 2 x 128 mb sticks of ram in and they work fine.
I put the 1 x 256 mb stick in and it doesnt work.
I put 1 x 128 & 1 x 256 and neither work
I put 2 x 128 & 1 x 256 and it all works.

i put the 1 x 256 in my old A7VPro and it works fine.
i am pretty darn certain that the A7VPro is using the 1004 bios..
whereas my new A7V133 is using the 1005A bios.

I tried downgrading the bios to the 1004 bios to see if that would work and it didnt. so i am back to the 1005A bios.

any help would be muchly appreciated as the 128mb modules need to be elsewhere.

I live in Sydney, have the ASUS A7V133c, you can talk direct to an "ASUS technician", just phone: (Sydney's area code is "02") 97423288. I have used them a couple of times, but only with fairly straight forward questions, yours is a beauty!!! That is really wierd. I would love to hear what the answer is, I'm currently enrolled in both PC Maintenance & Repair, and the Linux courses at Ultimo TAFE, so the information is going to an appropriate destination.
My Email is kolekta@yahoo.com.au - good luck!!!

Cool

I have a Asus A7V133 and I am using 2 x 256MB of Apacer (lifetime warranty) DIMMS, running at CAS2 on 133FSB.

How much did you pay for that DIMM?

With RAM you get what you pay for, if you skimped then your now in a lottery in my opinion!

Exclamation what i paid for

well the thing isnt so much is it quailtiy ram or not? because the ram works fine in my A7VPro. Its just it wont work in my A7V133 without the 2 x 128's in there as well.

Basically it was bought at a swap meet, new. I have bought plenty of ram there before for friends and what have you, and NEVER had a problem. Anyways, i basically paid the standard expo price which was $66 for 256mb.

hmmmm. i feel it has more to do with the motherboard than the ram tho.

also the guy that posted the sydney number for the asus technicians. do you know if they have a melbourne number?

Cool

Your A7Vpro doesn't run at a 133FSB if IIRC!

Your ram just isn't stepping up to the plate, when it comes to the big league!

And if I am correct, then your problem essentially is a quality problem.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Edited cause I was writing more betterer english.

i
fill your slots starting with the largest density in bank 0,and the second largest in bank 1,if this doesnt work try reyersing the procedure_.remove and rinstall the modules to make sure they are seated securely in the sockets.
are they cas2 or 3 .

Check the CAS setting of your motherboard, possibly your mainboard is having trouble running both pieces of memory at certain CAS levels, reset it too "3".
