Okay, I got a coupla cheap Velbon CX 440 tripods but wondering if there's something that's thinner and lighter that I could look into as I'm traveling shortly and want to find something that's smaller and lighter for the backpack.
I know that thinner and lighter = less sturdier but I don't need something that's reaching too high, it's just for doing time-lapse. I also have a few mini ones but I'm not talking about something that small. Any suggestions?

It's primarily for my P&S Canon PowerShot S80 although I'm sure the 30D with a 10-22 or 17-55 2.8 could feature for some night time shots.
Ta, I'll have a gander. [edit] Actually, that's a bit too small. And the tripods that I have are actually those Velbon CX 440's.

I have a 055 and a smaller ultra light Manfrotto 715 - decided to ditch the former for travelling and take the 715 with me as its *alot* lighter and packs without needing its own bag.
Haven't regretted it so far, it holds a 1Ds and 17-40 albeit a bit fiddly. |

How small do you wanna go?
The Velbon range seems to have some small tripods http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod1048.htm http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod4909.htm http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod4908.htm

I'll take some measurements tonight and compare it to the stats on posted links. Basically needs to be high enough to look out of a hotel window or railing so that's typically around a metre high or so. Mind you thinking about it, I'll have a snowboard bag for half of the trip so it's only going to be an issue for part of the trip. I'm just trying to be space concious until I get that bag.
