Have you got any hard drives on the normal controller or are you running just the CD-ROM? If you are running just the CD-ROM, there's your problem, you probably haven't got your RAID support until after you boot into Windows which, IIRC, you cannot do without a writable device (HDD).

I am a bit confused by Gnuthad. If it freezes on booting from CD ROM it can't have had a chance to ask for Raid drivers yet...
I have a possible solution. Try changing your ata cables. I had exactly the same freezeup with booting from cd on my 8k9a2+ (highpoint) but with just one drive on the raid array (for the moment). I unplugged and replugged my HDD ATA cable at both ends (not too long after a new install so I thought mabe some plastic was in the connector or such) and the problem went away . I am a bit sus on it but dare not complain Also there could be some kind of weid cross talk with that much going on, route em carefully etc. Don't use rounded cables (see www.dansdata.com on that stuff) too. Mabe cover your case window if you have one incase there is some weird interaction with external EMI. You have some weird shit going down there. Good luck. PS: I reckon big case windows are a bit silly for EM, some square chicken wire behind the window, electrically connected the the side of the case, would just about fix it

I have a similar problem ikonz0r, but not with any Windows products (pity), only have this problem with Linux, Ghost 2001 and older, and a couple of older diagnostic programs when booting from a floppy or CDROM, I hope to hear if you or somebody has worked out your problem.
I had to turn off promise device in BIOS (pain in the arse) just to install Linux and use it, I had a 13Gb Fireball CX that I used to put Linux on. (This is a whore of a PC as it has had more operating systems on it than a pro has done blow jobs) |

Oh just to those that gave input and might care about what happened with me .
it was a problem with the IDE cables and the fact that 1 of the HDD"s was just about DEAD so a replace of the cables got 2 workin flawless.. and the other 2 still need 1 replaced ( ill get around to it eventually )thanks! - ikon |

Greetings from frozen Southern Canada! Outside temp is -25C, in case you're curious. This site is really helpful. Already I've learned a lot...and I don't even have my HighPoint ATA100 yet! So, here's my Q: With XPH installed on ONE Barracuda IV/40G, I'm putting in a second Barracuda IV/40. I also have a Fuj 13G/5400. Although I intend to stripe at 16/16 NTFS, I'd like to confirm something first: If I were going RAID 1, (after install card and connect both drives to card and reboot) would card BIOS 'realize' second drive is empty and automatically build it up to a full mirror of original drive?. Or do I have to re-install XP no matter if I want 0 or 1? TIA, Ron.

I would imagine its a case of going into the RAID utility at boot, go to the part for mirroring the array, use the existing drive as a source and copying that data over to the new drive.

How come that 'Breeze Patch' link does not work anymore? I can't even find it on the net! I must be blind! I'm getting a RAID card for my Via KT400 m/b and this has been suggested as the best (better than Via's own driver/patch).

Thanks for that. BUT it says that the new one MUST NOT BE USED on the KT400?

I can't find how to repartition and format the primary partition as per chainbolts explaination.
![]() There is just no option there. And it is saying that it has NTFS file structure even though I didn't tell it to do that. Running 2x80GB IBM 120GXP's. First partition is ~130GB. 2nd is ~20GB. NFI why I can't do it.

I tried formating to 32\32 chunksizes, and I got no difference in performance.
I am Running a Hotrod 100 Pro (2.34 Bios) with 2 x 40 gig Maxtor Diamond Max 8 Drives (6E040l0) and with it set to 4\32 I get these results - anyone got any input on this? |
