Default Recommend me a set of headphones

I hope this is the right forum.

My preferences

~ Built-in mic for gaming/VoIP
~ bass support (bass-vibration an advantage)
~ 2.1 channel (5.1 an advantage)
~ No flimsy wiring
~ Muffs to cup right over ears, so a diameter of at least 6cm from top-bottom and 5cm width
~ Nothing too expensive. Maximum cost about $1000

$1000, woah that's heaps.

try the plantronics audio 770, offers surround sound, very comfy with the open ear design and has great sound quality.

its only about $90 though so I don't know if that's too low for you

OK $1000 is abit too high of a limit. $500 max would be more reasonable I guess.

I said "MAXIMUM" which doesn't necessarily mean "upto and including".

I did some window shopping at i-tech.com.au

Some I have in mind at the moment are:
http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/21..._Feedback.aspx
http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/21...g_Headset.aspx
http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/21...5_1_Force.aspx
http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/21...Vibration.aspx
http://hardware.teamxbox.com/article...dset-Review/p1 (these ones I can get for about $120 (note the price on this page would be $US))

5.1 for headphones is a joke, just get a good pair of quality stereo headphones.

www.headphones.com.au good for most things but a bit on the expensive side for some of the stuff

They all look fairly junky, IMO. What do you want them for?

If I was shopping with a decent budget and after bassy 'cans I'd probably go for the Beyer DT770/770Pro. As others have said though, with that kind of budget I'd be inclined to try a few out before you buy. And try them in audio shops - not in PC shops. I haven't seen a PC shop that stocks a decent range of real headphones - they just opt for the 'bling' ones that have very average sound.

I noted "5.1 an advantage" but not necessarily such. 2.1 is fine.

I have the HP headset with bass (model P2369AA) which I've had for nearly 1.5 years now, but the joint where the wiring joins the ear muffs, the wiring inside that is mucking up, when held in some positions it goes crackly and bass cuts out, in addition audio goes from stereo to mono. I've been told such part isn't always covered under warranty, at least not this far into the warranty period (the service I need to call to check this doesn't operate on weekends), so at the moment I'm doing window shopping.

My usage is gaming/VoIP and listening to music at the same time. I plug the headphones into the volume/bass control console of my I-Trigue 3400 speakers. I don't plan on getting just a cheapy set of headphones with a mic as I have an accurate sense of hearing to pick up even very low level volume'd static.

They're fairly light on bass though. And they're also not circumaural, which is what he's asked for.

Just curious, where does the sub go in 2.1/5.1 headphones as I thought the .1 refered to a sub woofer? For that matter where does the 5th speaker go in 5.1 headphones?

Seriously though forget the 6 speaker ones, the quality of them is just poor. I mean it's common sense, 2 drivers will be better quality than 6 at the same price. And CAPT-Irrelevant your budget seems all over the place, you say up to $1000 but you're looking at cans most of which are less than $100. I say check out the Beyer's TMM suggested.

If a headset isn't that important and a desktop mic will do then you're opening a whole range of new options too.

Cool

If you are prepared to spend $1000 then you can get serious set of broadcast quality BeyerDynamic headsets.

You will even have to order a special adapter so they will work with 3.5mm sockets.
