Default IPCOP issues

hey guys

i've been running an IPCOP box for years now and in the last week or two i'm getting a strange problem

the problem is that the internet cuts out every day or two (well that's the symptom) when i restart the IPCOP box everything works great again lol

i've tried getting all the latest updates, playing with DHCP settings but the thing is i am not really doing anything different to what i used to in the past

anyone able to shed some light on this

kinda got me scratching my head and not sure what else to try

What do the logs show?

Can you be any more specific about "internet cuts out"?

How's it set up?

i looked at the logs but i don't understand any of it

when i say cut out basically internet stops working

for example today i'm listening to internet radio and around 1pm it stops

i try email and firefox = no internet connection

log onto IPCOP
restart machine

every works properly
continued intenet radio and still listening heh

how is it setup
just standard setup no fancy stuff here
i am a noob at it to be honest
the reason why i use it is because my torrent downloads work much faster compared to dedicated routers....i had a netgear and another one which i just could not get to work for the life of me

Well it sounds like for some reason or other you're losing your red connection. What sort of internet connection is it using? How's the modem connected? Cable or DSL? If cable, telstra or optus? if dsl, is it using pppoe or pppoa?

Well anything's possible, but given that it appears it's just the red connection that's going down, and it's happening approximately every two days, I'd hazard a guess you've got a dhcp problem. Assuming you've got a motorolla 4100 or newer, next time it goes down, try turning off the modem for thirty seconds (soft-off, just press the standby button, dont unplug it from the wall) then turning it back on. That'll force ipcop to get a new dhcp lease.

If it works after doing that, it would more-or-less confirm it's a dhcp problem somewhere on the red end
