Default $1500 laptop with XP

Looking for a new lappie, broke mine last night, screen is holding with one hinge atm, i'll give it two weeks before i break it.

Must have XP or a free downgrade at least.
looking to spend anywhere from $1000 to $1500
14.1" screen is preferable, but will be happy with a 15".

dell vostro 15" can be shipped with win xp, and is in that price range.
That is as far as I know, I bought a 14" vostro for $1300 last year, and at that time, the 15" was about $1500 and could be shipped with XP.
There's a thread on them, so check there. I recommend them, mines been good and had a hard life as I'm taking it to work everyday in my van and using it at home as well.

Other than dell the only other manufacturers still producing xp units seem to be Asus and some IBM models,

I think you'll find the dell units a more solid build than any of the cheaper Asus units around the $1500 mark.

IBM of course would be ideal if your looking for a laptop that will be taking a bit of a bashing.

You'll probably find that while you can get both Asus and IBM laptops with XP you wont be able to find any on display at any major retailors and may have to special order one.

I will suggest get Dell Vostro with 3yr Accidental Warranty. I had an issue with Dell 9400 in my car where it was crushed under 2 boxes of paper (idiot instore didn`t looked bfore putting them in the car), a quick call to dell and the guys came with new lcd, lcd lid and hinges and fixed it. Another time there was a surge while i was overseas (india) and nothing inside the shell was alive, they replaced all the parts within 24 hrs and i had a working lappy.

So if its going to get bashed a fair bit, it might be worth spending few $$$ to get accidental warranty on it.
