Default Best Method for installing XP on an Asus EEE PC

Well the missus came home with an eee pc after going shopping today. I didn't really know a lot about them apart from the fact they existed. So of course it was up to me to set it up. I have had many issues so far with network settings, importing her outlook calendar and e-mail just to name a few.

So I did some research and have found that it is possible to install XP on it, which as soon as I found out and told her the whole street would have heard her sigh of relief. So it looks like I will be installing XP, and looking around the net there seems to be quite a few different methods (using a flash drive).

This one seems to be the most popular. So is this the way to go? I find it hard to believe it is the simplest way of going about it. Also, is there any chance of me stuffing the thing up? And lastly how hard is it to get linux back on as it came out of the box if I cant get XP working?

Cheers

While I don't have one myself however USB installs of XP are nothing new. I'm sure it would be fine providing you follow the instructions and have good technical knowledge to begin with?

Take a Ghost image (or the like) before hand... This way, you can reload the ASUS Linux OS back on at any stage. Just put it on a CD or something...

I believe Asus provides a backup CD (with the linux OS) in the case you completely screw the thing over when trying to install XP...

Well I went out and bought a external usb enclosure for a spare IDE burner I had lying around. Only cost about 25 bucks so I could deal with that.

This made the whole installation process really easy. I have it up and running on XP at the moment and I am quite impressed with how fast it is. Havent installed anything except drivers and firefox so far and everything is going well.
