Try to avoid being connected with any middle-eastern terror groups!

I wouldn't have thought that would be legal at all.

Can you even get a licence to cover an assault rifle in Australia? Unless ofcouse it is inoperable.

I'm pretty sure you can apply for a collectors license. Maybe ring your local police station and ask where you can apply for one of those.

+1, dad has a collectors licence. Can't recall all the steps needed, but contacting the police for details was one of the first things he did to get specific details.

kick, scream and beg your military pals returning from a tour of duty to bring one back.

chances are if they manage to get it back, you wont be getting it though.

You need a collector's license. you need to be able to prove that you have a valid and legitimate interest in collecting AK's.

You then need to have a storage facility which follows all requirements for storing a fully automatic weapon (category R in QLD).

you then need to apply for a "permit to aquire" once you find an AK that you want to collect. This must be a permanently inoperable AK (firing pin destroyed in such a way it cannot be replaced, and a nice verticle bar welded into the firing chamber so it'll never ever be able to fire a round, and then it has to be certified as deactivated by a registered gunsmith).

On your permit to aquire application, you need to substantiate why it's collectable, ie family trophy, special edition, strong historic value (with references).

then, if the police approive the application for a permit to aquire, you are allowed to purhcase it and keep it hidden away in a safe.
