That looks pretty good, any idea of how soon they may be released?

I've been told by my account manager at Dell we should expect the Latitude "refresh" around June - August.

I somewhat doubt it will be in by the end of FY08.

Expect a new docking station design, so your D-series attachments are now useless, and expect a slot-loading DVD.

Yep, and from all accounts it's coming across to the regular E-series.

I've been led to believe the D430 form factor replacement will have the new "Macbook Air style" CPU options as well as the slot loading DVD drive.

they look good, but you can also expect them to be retardedly expensive like the current latitude series

less than $2000ex for;

2.2ghz C2D
2gb ram
14.1in widescreen
120gb 7200rpm drive
8x DVDRW
Bluetooth
Intel AGN Wireless
9-cell battery
3 years NBD onsite parts/labour
bag

is "retardedly expensive"?

I think you'll find that the people who need these kind of corporate-grade notebooks get them quite affordably.

considering what you can get in their home/home office series, yes it is far too expensive.

but i see your point, very few people actually pay the listed price on dell's website for latitudes - mainly businesses buying thousands at a time for a big discount.

Yeah I have now had latitudes for my lat 3 laptops: never missed a beat... Also, I bought each of them from either the Dell outlet, or Grays; were always around 40% less than the cost in the Dell store...
Having looked at the XPS 1530, it does seem quite good value, this one is $1699 delivered:

Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500
2GB 667MHz dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) TFT Display with TrueLife™
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
8X max DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability
Intel® 4965 Wireless-N Mini-card

Can that really be beaten?

I'd happily pay more for a Latitude. In my experience they have much better build quality than Dell's "home" laptops.
Not all decisions are based on a few hundred dollars.

So ... has anyone heard any more about these? There seemed to be a flurry of interest around the web back around February, but I haven't seen much since.
