The PSP would've even have enough processing power to decode it at HD resolutions. Videos would have to be totally reencoded to play back on the PSP unless they are going to streamed the same way PS3 games are using RemotePlay where the PSP is acting as a dumb terminal for the PS3.

Reencoding them shouldn't really be much of a problem.

I've flicked through a few articles and the video but couldn't tell for sure: with 2 HD tuners, does this mean you can record on *both* at the same time (whether you're watching one or not)?

I'm not actully sure about that one. I suppose it depends on the power of your HDD and what not if it can record 2 at the same time.

My understanding is that it's constantly recording what your watching anyway so you can rewind and what not, like TIVO?

They only state "It allows for simultaneous recording of live TV onto the PS3's hard drive (upgradeable) while watching another channel."

I don't believe most laptop hard drives can sustain the data being written to the disk from two 1080i streams. The processing of the streams by the Cell processor shouldn't be a problem, just the storage media.

The only chance atm is for FreeTV Australia to sign a deal with Sony, or possibly for Sony to sign a deal with IceTV.

It should support the over-the-air guide (that is broadcast with the channels) straight out of the box, the only issue is that it's not an ideal solution - 7 days of just program info, or only 3 days of program info + descriptions. Also, the FreeTV people aren't happy with their guide being used as a method of recording things.

IceTV are all for recording, on the other hand, but I haven't heard anything PS3-specific about it (though I do know that the new VAIO media notebooks coming out will have IceTV software preinstalled, which means good relations at Sony).

Also, the IceTV guide costs money, though you'd expect a ~3mth 'trial' to be included. Also, people who buy $1000 PS3s should be able to afford it

In reg. to recording two channels at once - it's possible on devices with relatively cheap PATA IDE HDDs in them, so it should be OK with a newer HDD, albeit a laptop one.

Yeah read about that. But unlike everyone else complaining about taking longer than the expected time, it does not overly bother me, thus I will wait patiently !
