Default Laptop cpu upgrade

Hi guys, got an acer 5315 which is using an intel 965m chipset - im just wondering if its possible to swap the CPU with a core2duo? The socket inside is an s478m.. The current CPU is a core2 based celeron M 540 @ 1.86ghz

Has anyone done these sort of swapovers before?

I just upgraded my Compaq C731TU from a Celeron-M 540 to a Core 2 Duo T7250 (bought it off eBay for just over $100AUD). Despite the 960GL chipset officially not supporting it, it runs fine at the full FSB speed.

All it depends upon is whether the CPU in your laptop is socketed or not. I would guess it is, though.

Oh, just make sure you get a Socket P Core 2 Duo, not a Socket M

It's totally worth it, the Celerons are terrible.

Upgraded the cpu in my aspire 4315 to a socket P T7300 and it runs perfectly.

That uses a 960GL chipset too... the only limitation i had was that it refuses to run 4gb of ram (but it will run 3gb)
