Can we use this thread to ask/learn about film as well?

I've only really gotten into photography with digital cameras, but would love to get into film too.

What's a good camera to look into to either utilise my existing Canon gear, or would it be better to be more 'exotic' and look at picking up an older complete set of film gear?

Yeah sure why not.
Also links to anything film related like cheap film/processing etc.

As for camera suggestions, you could also check out the EOS Elan series, occasionally they'll go cheap on eBay.
Depends what you want to spend though..

Olympus Trip 35 with decintigrated light seals..
Pentax Spotmatic SP1000 w/ Takumar 55mm f/2

Mainly use the cheapest ISO400 film available from the supermarkets.

Cheers

Greta to see so much variety here as well. I need to go grab some batteries and decent film for mine before i can go shooting though. I see some velvia film going on ebay, 10 rolls for $80, good deal?

Didnt you post some photos a few weeks back from it? They seemed alright even with the dodge light sealing. Maybe i can get away with just using my ricoh as is instead of spending money and getting the seals fixed (mostly because im cheap)

Its pretty simple too. These are a few shots from when i did it

I'm a film fan, and keep promising myself I'll buy a nice scanner for it all one day but alas, other things keep tying up the disposable part of my income. Most of my kit has come from these very forums. I'm also on the lookout for a cheap little rangefinder.

Canon AE-1 + 50 1.8
Canon EOS 300
Canon EOS 3000
Canon EOS 20 2.8
Canon EOS 50 1.8
Canon EOS 28-135
Canon EOS 28-80
Canon EOS 75-300

Anyone got recommendations for cheap (decent res*) scanning in Melbourne?

*Decent res needed because I need to scan/edit and then print from the file rather than the negative - THAT'S HOW GOOD I AM!

speaking of scanners, i'm seriously considering getting this one from B+H. it's an Epson 4490 and i've read lots of good reviews about it. has digital ice for dust and scratch removal and there is a rebate on atm. price is $179 but with rebate it's $149. can't see any fine print for US only for the rebate... so tempted.

what do you more exp guys think about this scanner?

From my gear page:

Pentax K1000

Tokina AT-X 24-40/2.8
Pentax SMC-M 50/1.4
Pentax SMC-M 50/2
Pentax Takumar 135/2.5

Currently using kodacolor 200 + 400, $2.50/roll until I start getting half decent images
