Where to get New laptop (- vista)

My dad needs to get a new laptop for another employee. Typically he was just going with the Acer $800 special (the laptops operate in a TERRIBLE environment) with windows XP. Trouble is, now these laptops come with vista, and with such a bulky operating system they are virtually un-usable (he bought one before, and it was so shit he gave it away).

It seems these days you cant get a new laptop on the cheap without vista, or if you buy one with vista, sure it can be formatted, but there are no drivers supplied for XP.

So where can i get a laptop without vista (sydney area)? He is VERY prepared to buy a good quality recent (less than 12 months old) laptop with XP on it if i can find one.

What do you guys think?

What sort of spec is he after - budget or performance? If he wants something cheap, check out the 'laptops for under a grand thread' - plenty of cheapies there, some without Vista.

I just today bought a new Acer for $499 with Linux installed for my Aunt (which will be promptly wiped and replaced with Vista).

What drivers are you refering to??? Cause i was thinking of formatting my laptop so i can put XP on it.
