Leave the pedal plate clear of padding. Real racing cars don't have padding there. Wear shoes, but considering it IS a simulator - get some real racing boots. Karting boots are thin-soled like racing shoes should be and don't have Nomex or other fire-retardants so the price is kept low. They are also thin and flexible enough to allow heel-and-toe.

While you're at it, get some gloves too. Same deal, get karting gloves, just as much feel as car racing gloves without the expensive Nomex.

All that is left is to then upgrade to a suede wheel for a real racing cockpit feel

Thinking about a monitor mount atm - needs to be removable. This one bolts on with 4 bolts and the concept could be expanded to 3 monitors with a little more bracing.

Without the arm :

the idea being that different arms will suit different monitors.

I've also reduced the width of the uprights at the front :

Old version :

This change will be implemented in my second chassis - the first will stay as is.

^ Nice to see the width reduction, you could have made it a multi story building using the original size

hehe - originally it was more for the width around the wheel (the rails could sit out wider) but I dont think it needs the room now I've built one, and the 25 x25 looks better

The beginnings of a sheet steel floor to replace tubes and mdf - it will also provide the front support with the winglets that will sit onto the floor.

Will need bracing though

Been busy with other things, but had an idea today for the nose. I was throwing away an old kite and I thought maybe I could use a similar structure for the cosmetic portion of the nose instead of a solid fibreglass section. ie use fibreglass poles bent to the correct shape with a colourful nylon fabric stretched over it?

Just an idea and I need to have a look to see if feasible, but one advantage is that it would take up almost no space when disassembled.

had a chance to cast a critical eye over the chassis as is, and that will result in a couple of minor changes to the rear sheetmetal crossmember.

I'd really like to be able to bolt the whole thing together so it could be boxed up - thinking about that too.

Much more better than using fiberglass

Default Great project

A true inspiration.

I am starting a project of my own, and I wondered, would you please share your pedals, and the rest of the logitech setup in solidworks files ?

Regards

yeah - corflute or a similar board would also work - could also be shaped between curved fibreglass rods.

I need to think about it some more, but just an idea. More of convenience really unless I can find someone with a cnc router (at least 3 axis) that can make me a mould for the fibreglass nose

Ive had a few people sit in it now, and they all thought the driving position felt very realistic and that the tubes at the side really did give you a single seater feel - mission accomplished on that. I just need to get my finger out and finish the front end sheetmetal version and the nose.

Axle, so much progress since i saw this thread last, great work!

are you looking at throwing these things into production?

the corflute / kite material idea seems pretty cool, you could get some ingenious people customising it by sewing together their own material with logos and whatnot

keep it going!
