Usually overclocking the ram too far only results in artifacting. I've never experienced crashing from the memory (this was true to ddr1 at least).

I had crashing when one of my cards memory was clocked above 1055 :<

I also had this weird thing where the card seemed to just stop displaying an image and my monitor displayed a "no signal notice".All these problems have dissapeared after i took the memory clock down

I'll drop clocks tonight and see what I get
62 core temp shouldn't matter though considering they used to be 80? :\

Really? Maybe newer memory (DDR3, 5) responds differently. I haven't gotten to ram clocks on the 4870 yet

I guess. I just haven't overclocked ram on a video card since ye old R300/R430? days. The 9700pro and X800XTPE would just artifact like bitches when the ram was too high.

Times have changed... Artifacts are so much nicer than crashing too.

Got me a Powercolour 4870 today. After alot of fiddling with drivers and what not I got Frontlines to work, it looks amazing too. But BF2 doesn't even start it just crashes to the desktop as soon as it goes blackscreen.

The asus 4850 with its dual slot cooler comes in to.... secretnet I think it was, end of 31/7... just thought you'd be interested in that... I know I am, but the price of it (342!!!) is way too much. If there are any non reference cards out for under $300 4850 style, im so in.

Arctic Cooling Accelero S1, Rev2

What do you think?

Are they passive only? Don't see how they can put a fan on it....

*sigh*

Have you heard of anyones 4850 burning up? No? Because there's nothing wrong with the stock cooling. The fan profiles are designed to keep the card at safe temperatures with minimal noise.

I guess if it had a better cooler on it, people would just whinge about how noisy it is and endeavor to mod their card to reduce fan speed...

Agree 100%. No issues with my 4870 either, part of the reason I liked it more was because it was venting the air out of the case. Really, if the card can last 5+ years at that level what's the issue?
