Default Nehalem Vs Shanghai SPEC benchs leaked.

Probably not directly relevant to most of us here but something to read on a Sunday morning.

Link courtesy of Aces Liferaft.

What I draw from it;
Intel expects decent per clock improvements in Shanghai relative to Barcelona (a third better performance for a fifth better clockrate, hmmm...).

Penryn to Nehalem won't initialy see much if any clockrate increase and probably not much for single threaded integer IPC with 4 extra virtual cores only bringing a 40% multithreading boost.

Everything continues to point towards Nehalem being a clean kill over Opteron. One glimmer of hope for AMD might be Nehalem isnt ramping on the desktop till well into 2009, if they can finally execute well with Shanghai it could actually be a decent competator to Penryn, if they price it right of course.

This info seems to be making more and more of the rounds atm.

http://www.dailytech.com/Sun%20Leaks...ticle10834.htm

We all know alot of the info there, but intels projections are interesting. I'll be interested to see the memory controller on die and see how it affects performance. It seemed to help AMD alot initially. Would probably also then make low latency memory far more sought after on both sides of the fence.

Anyone willing to start a thread and gather all this sort of info/links together to save reposting when then next one comes out?

X-Bit rehashing a VR-Zone story.

The interesting bit, Nehalem allegedly shipping a little early.

The initial quantities will be very low, however, already in Q4 the share of Nehalem micro-architecture-based 2P server chips will increase to about 8%.

If the silicon is good to go for the server market I'd assume the desktop push will go early as well. Hopefully IDF in early April will reveal something more substantial.
