Default Recommendation: Upgrade Mobo Suitable For E6600

Hi,

I am currently running a system that consists of:
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
  • Asrock 775Dual-VSTA
  • 2x 512MB DDR
  • 400GB Seagate SATA
  • 320GB Seagate SATA (currently dead)
  • 80GB Seagate IDE
  • Maxtor 100GB USB HDD
  • GeForce 7600GT 256MB
  • Samsung DL DVD-RW
  • 19" LCD Samsung SyncMaster 932B

I have been thinking of upgrading the mobo to something more 'current' that may be of more use now & hopefully, later on.

The only reason why I got the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA, was its support for AGP & PCI-E. I then found out afterwards that my AGP Radeon 9800 Pro, had crapped itself. My intentions were to use my exsisting AGP card, then later upgrade to PCI-E, which I have already done.

I also do realise that the capacity of my RAM isn't much chop. I haven't been out to buy any new RAM, but I think from memory the 775Dual-VSTA only supports up to DDR2 667.

So, in all, I'm looking at:
  • A mobo with PCI-E, which obviously wont be hard to find.
  • Look for something that would support atleast 2GB DDR2.
  • 2 SATA & IDE ports.
  • Atleast 4 USB ports on the back & 2 on the front.
  • Then, the general ethernet, PS/2 etc.

If anyone could recommend me a suitable mobo, that would be great.

Btw, on a parting note, I have noticed for a while now, that when I right click on My Computer, Properties, I notice that it says my CPU is running at 2.31GHz, rather than 2.4GHz (screenshot). I havent changed anything in the BIOS. What may that problem be?

I say if the current board does what you want, keep it, as the e6600+ a mild overclock is plenty to tie you over to the next chipset and cpus are released.

As for the speed, the multiplier in your bios is set to 8x, change it to 9x and all will be good

Do you have a price range at all as that can determine what would be suitable.
As stated above however, if the current board does the job, keep it.

+1! Rock solid, great features and fantastic price.

If I see one more fucking recommendation for a Gigashat board I'm gonna go postal.

EDIT: I'd also recommend getting some more RAM, it should give you noticeable performance boost and 2GB kits are dirt cheap these days.
