The kicker though was when i got home and unpacked it ... turns out it is was correctly labelled on the box in one regard - power brick really was 203 watts, and then to my amazement saw there was no HDMI output ... and read on the unit that it was made in 2006 !
So label was totally wrong in saying it was from LOT 814 .... that would mean it had been put together in early 2008 hmmmm.
Upon return i was told all their other Arcade stock was also 2006, and similarly marked as being from LOT 081x.
it might just be a one off, but unwrap your product verycarefully and keep your reciept handy - just in case.
thats why there is a window on the box so you can read the manufacture date

No one is having a go at you. The information was already posted, it's not going to be inaccurate, it's posted on just about every tech site even remotely related to consoles I can see. You will find generally that people here are pretty savvy with their money.

Chill!

I might just go pick up one this morning

Could you do me a super favour and post here as soon as you have stock?

I'd be one of your customers

Ill keep an eye out for you, was told yesterday that the shippment was coming in around the end of the month but the sale will be over by then...

so your best bet if bigw will still let you is to go try and put a 360 on layby, when bigw receives the shipment they will put your console in layby with your name on it then it will just work like a regular layby and you will get the xbox for the sale price.

Cheers for that, i've already got it on layby but want to get it as soon as possible. I was told however that they don't get in contact with those waiting, so a post here would save constant calling

I went to JB Macquarie Centre and they had the pro sku on promo for $469. So I bought it along with the HDMI Kit for later. Currently resetting everything before I am officially back on Live.

EDIT: I'm now back online!

I picked up an Arcade from EB's after pricematching and it too was a non HDMI unit . They took it back no questions asked .
I actually mentioned to the guy that Big W were out of stock but he still price matched anyway . I thought that was unusual and now know why , They are offloading their old units .

Edit:Went to Hardley Normals , In stock with HDMI and price matched
BTW there didn't sem to be any difference in the packaging between the 2 units that I noticed anyhow . Best bet is to get them to open them up .

Can anyone confirm the type of drives coming with these xbox 360 arcade packs? Are they the new lite on drives? or the old benq ones?

Cheers.

Depends on the Manufactured date and lot number.

Manufactured dates between December 2007 and March 2008 with lots numbers between 740-815 Should be a HDMI console with Benq-Philips drives. Which is what most people are getting at the moment.

As long as its not one of those 2006 models without the HDMI that a few people have been seeing/getting here. Which falls between the above lot numbers.

Benq-Philips drives started appearing in December 2006 and were retired in April 2008. From April 2008 they started using the new non flashable Benq-Liteon drives.

I'd say if a shop has run out of consoles, there next shipment will most likely have the new Benq-Liteon drives.

Mine was made on may 26 '08 so hopefully that's a good thing.

Good in the sense it's most likely a Falcon with HDMI. Bad that is is most likely a Lite-on Benq Drive.

My HDMI Falcon Arcade looks to have the Benq-phillips drive . It has the right shaped tray . Apparently if you pop the faceplate off theres a hole just under the drive on the right side , If you see a white wire it's the older Benq , if it's yellow it's the newer Lite-on Benq .

My maufacture date is 10/07 Lot 741 . Confusingly the sticker on the box states 203W power supply but it actually comes with the 175W power supply (Falcon) . You really do need to open them up to see for yourself .

EDIT: heres a youtube video that shows how to identify a lite-on from a philips without voiding the warranty by checking the wire colours http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY76rKo5mQg

I got my arcade from HN last night and it said 203W on the box, and again, inside it had HDMI. I asked them to open it before I bought it.
