Default Unable to syncronise Wii controllers

I decided to play some Wii after a long break but can't syncronsise my controllers. I used new batteries, I followed the Nintendo troubleshooting help. I tried three different controllers. No response.

When I hit the sync button on a controller the disk bay light is supposed to flash. Is that correct? My Wii won't flash.

I guess its either the Wii itself or the sensor bar which is at fault. Would it be worth it to buy another sensor bar? There are some Wii games I am interested in buying so I would like to get my Wii going again.

Otherwise the Wii seems to be behaving normally. After about 2 minutes its goes to the main menu but I can't do anything there.

Try setting up the Wii from scratch. With that, I mean unplugging the power from the Wii and removing the batteries from the Wiimote. Then plug the Wii back in and then the batteries in the Wiimote. Then turn on the Wii using the Wiimote and keep pressing A until it registers.

Or, use the sync buttons, after you have unplugged and plugged the Wii.

Might be a silly question, but you've only mentioned the sync button on the remote.

Have you pressed the one on the Wii first? Its under the flap where the SD card goes in. Press that first, then the Wiimote sync button.

Thanks for the replies.

I will try from scratch again, though I did it.

Yes I did try the sync button on the Wii.

Apparently the sequence is to press the sync button on the controller, then the Wii flashes its drive light, then you press sync on the Wii.

I tend to think its the bar thats the problem or more particularly the wires as they were hanging loose and there were other heavier cables ontop of them behind my AV cabinet.

I've always done it the opposite way - press the Wii sync, then the Wiimote sync. Worth a try!

have you tried doing it through the menu using the method of pressing the 1 + 2 buttons on the wii remote instead of the little button in the battery bay?

The lightbar is passive and has nothing to do with the Syncing of the remotes.

My advice would be to take your Wii and WiiMote(s) to a friends place and test with there unit. Find out of the controller or Wii is at fault.

An update: I obtained another set of batteries and it works.

Clearly the other batteries I had were not new after all.

Thanks for the help!

I've had this problem a few times actually, where re-syncing doesn't seem to work after the remotes just magically lose their connections.

There's no sure-fire way to fix it first time, I just keep trying until it works.

And yeah, the sensor bar, ironically, has no sensors. It's completely passive and is essentially two little lights; synchronisation of remotes comes nowhere near it.
